Kabul - Afghanistan's ruling Taliban movement threatened yesterday to boycott any UN-sponsored peace talks and shut down the UN political office in the country if the Security Council imposed tighter sanctions against Kabul.

A Taliban Foreign Ministry statement said the UN was no longer a neutral organisation and was acting at the behest of the US and Russia, both of which have proposed UN sanctions against the Taliban.
