A drug addict threatened a garda with a syringe. The garda chased him after he left a fastfood restaurant without paying his bill, a court heard yesterday.

Tony Lee (21), of Cul na Greine, Old Bawn, Tallaght, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to incurring a debt of £16.45 by false pretences at Eddie Rocket's, South Anne Street, Dublin, and having a syringe on Nassau Street.

Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick was told the defendant is serving a 12-month sentence and he imposed sentences totalling three months' detention.
