BERNE - The Swiss government yesterday backed away from suggestions earlier this week that it might be prepared to renegotiate the post war settlement of looted Nazi gold.

The Foreign Minister, Mr Flavio Cotti, insisted after talks with Mr Malcolm Rifkind, his British opposite number, that no predictions could be made until a commission completed its inquiry.
