Swimmer rescued from Lough Derg

A swimmer had to be rescued from Lough Derg in Co Clare last night after getting into difficulty.

A swimmer had to be rescued from Lough Derg in Co Clare last night after getting into difficulty.

The man, who was wearing a wetsuit, was taken from the water by the Killaloe Coast Guard near Twomilegate.

He was unconscious and suffering from hypothermia when he was brought ashore.

He was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital after regaining consciousness.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter also attended the scene.
