Swimming:Andrew Bree has become the first Irish swimmer to qualify for next year's Beijing Olympics after setting a new Irish record in the 200metres breaststroke heats of the US National Championships in Indianapolis.

The northern swimmer from Helen's Bay clocked a time of 2 minutes 13.44 seconds to be the fourth fastest qualifier in today's heat, but more importantly, he was inside the Olympic qualifying "A" time set by the Irish selectors.

Bree, who narrowly missed out on a place on the Ireland team for the 2004 Games in Athens, took  a massive 0.72seconds of his own three-year-old Irish record.
