Suspected arsonist stabs man in Co Down

A man has been stabbed in Co Down as he fought off an intruder after an arson attack on his home.

A man has been stabbed in Co Down as he fought off an intruder after an arson attack on his home.

The man and his partner were in their house in Kerry Drive, Killyleagh, this morning when they discovered a fire at the front door, police said.

The householder went outside and extinguished the fire and then noticed a man hiding in his garden hedge.

He challenged the man and gave chase when he ran off. He followed the man into an alleyway where he was stabbed in the stomach.

A PSNI spokesman said the injury was not believed to be serious.

There were no arrests and a motive for the arson attack is unknown.
