Teachers need more support when working with disadvantaged and special needs students, particularly in rural areas, the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland has said, writes Emmet Oliver.
The union said three out of every five disadvantaged students came from a rural area yet most schools designated as disadvantaged by the Department of Education were in urban areas.
