Superquinn, the family-owned supermarket chain headed by Senator Feargal Quinn, has been taken over by a consortium of private investors in a deal worth €350 million.

The chain has sold a majority of the company to Select Retail Holdings.

Mr Simon Burke, who headed the Hamleys toy store in Britain, will become the new executive chairman of Superquinn under the agreement.
