Alas, just when you thought it was safe to rely on the recent sunshine and indulge yourself with plans for the weekend barbecue, the Irish weather has to go and take another turn for the worse.
Unfortunately the glorious sun of the past week will not be with us for too much longer. According to Met Éireann, the weather will be "changeable" from today onwards.
The sun will be intermingled with rain showers and although temperatures will range from 15 to 20 degrees centigrade up to the weekend, a Met Éireann spokesman told ireland.comit will be noticeably cooler.
And despite the almost continuous downpour of rain this August the Irish weather has apparently not broken any records, according to Met Éireann.
A spokesman told ireland.comthat although the weather had been "duller than average and wetter than average" this month, it was "below par, but nothing record-breaking".
Cork had "well over one and a half times the monthly average of rainfall", he said, but sunshine levels around the country have been "average" this month.
