An opinion poll published today has shown strong support for the Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil.
Support for the party is at 49 per cent, with more than three in five questioned (61 per cent) saying they were satisfied with the performance of the Government, according to a poll commissioned by the Sunday Independent.
Mr Ahern is also the most popular party leader, with 65 per cent satisfied with his performance.
Support for Fianna Fáil is up three points from a similar poll in February, with its coalition partners, the Progressive Democrats, at 3 per cent, down one point.
Of the opposition parties, Fine Gael are down one point on 24 per cent, Labour is at 13 per cent, up two points, the Green Party is at 5 per cent, up one, and Sinn Fein are unchanged at 4 per cent.
Voter satisfaction with Progressive Democrat leader Ms Mary Harney is at 59 per cent, with Labour's Mr Ruairi Quinn at 52 per cent and new Fine Gael leader Mr Michael Noonan is at 40 per cent.
The poll was conducted last Thursday among 1,104 adults at 100 locations throughout the country. PA
