London - The British Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, has signed away the British parliament's right to bring back hanging by signing the 6th protocol of the European Convention on Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The last remaining capital offences in the UK, treason and piracy with violence, were abolished in the Crime and Disorder Act passed last year.
