Eight Caribbean seafarers stranded in Cork for 18 months were told yesterday they will be paid their wages and air-fares home.

A Dutch businessman who hired the men to sail five tug boats to the Dominican Republic agreed to cover their expenses following a meeting in the city. The seafarers - most in their 60s and 70s- have lived aboard the tugs at Cobh since early 1998.
