Fine Gael has called for the appeal by the State against the High Court decision in favour of Mr Jamie Sinnott (23), who is autistic, to be dropped. The court awarded £225,000 to Mr Sinnott in October in respect of the State's obligation to provide him with primary education.

Fine Gael's education spokesman, Mr Enda Kenny, yesterday said the State's negligence had already been clearly identified, so the Government should now "get on with compensating the families concerned".
