WHILE the stars seemed give the Film Ball at Ardmore a wide berth last Friday, at least some of them turned up to casting agents Ros and John Hubbard's party in their South Circular Road home on, Sunday afternoon. Super smooth Pierce Brosnan made an appearance, as did Hill Harper, the very attractive, hot young American actor who has just finished a movie with Spike Lee and can currently be seen roaming the Wicklow hills for his role in Brosnan's new movie, The Nephew.
Actor's agent Lisa Cook had reason to look pleased as she has struck lucky with at least two of the people on her books - award-winning young Cork actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who has just finished a run of six movies including Michael Collins, and the irrepressible Pauline McLynn, who worked the crowded party in 15 minutes flat, (she arrived from Kilkenny by taxi, and it was waiting to take her to the airport). She was by far the most air-kissed, luvvied person in the room - everyone wanted to congratulate her for her British Comedy Award.
The invite suggested "drinks and a little lunch" but true to the Hubbards' reputation as generous party givers there was a great deal of both and the party which should have ended at 4 p.m. was still heaving at 6.
The pre-Christmas bash was also a sort of send-off for the couple, who flew off to Los Angeles this week for the premiere of Evita. They were casting directors on the film, which is by far their most prestigious project to date.
