Racing:Kauto Star is set for a course of antibiotics after tests revealed he is suffering from an infection following his eclipse in the King George VI Chase last Saturday.
The 11-year-old was bidding for a fifth successive triumph in the Kempton feature but had to settle for third behind impressive winner Long Run.
Trainer Paul Nicholls reported on Sunday that Kauto Star had bled after the race, but he has now confirmed tests on the gelding show he also has an infection.
Nicholls told Twitter: “Just had Kauto Star’s blood test results. Shows signs of inflammation and low-grade infection. Week’s antibiotics and easy few days. Update on Friday.”
