Mission: The society is a Christian lay voluntary organisation working with the poor and disadvantaged. It provides support and friendship, promotes self-sufficiency and works for social justice.

Funding: In 2004 the organisation had an income of €34.4 million. About 38 per cent came from the State, the remaining 62 per cent coming from the shops, donations and fund-raising.
