Sportsman facing trial for rape

A 24-year-old international sportsman who is charged with the rape of a Galway teenager was returned for trial to the next sitting of Galway Circuit Court on September 29th. The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is charged with the rape of a girl, aged under 15, in Salthill on February 3rd. He has been in custody since the date of the alleged offence. He is also charged with assaulting a garda while attending a court hearing.
