Sports funding cut by €12m

Funding to the Irish Sports Council is down by 4 per cent to €49.7 million while the Horse and Greyhound Racing fund will see a 13 per cent decline in funds to €59.2 million.

A total of €48 million has been provided for the Sports Capital Programme, the scheme which supports building related projects. This compares to funding of €56 million under the last Budget.

The Lansdowne Road Stadium receives €4.5 million in funding while €3 million is being provided for the refurbishment of the former Marine Institute building at Abbotstown.

The remainder of the allocation under the Budget will be given to the National Acquatic Centre for capital maintenance purposes.
