Real Madrid star Luis Figo has reiterated his belief that David Beckham would
benefit from a stint abroad.
However, Portuguese international Figo, fresh from being voted European Footballer of the Year and honoured at the World Sports Awards, insists that for Beckham to rank among the world's elite, he needs to improve his all-round game by sampling a new environment.
Figo told The Mirror: "Beckham is a truly great player, but to reach your full potential you need a new challenge.
"I was at Sporting Lisbon but since moving to Spain, I have definitely improved as a player.
"You learn different tactics, work with great players and it improves you. It has helped my performances for my country as well.
"He has reached the top in England and Manchester United are a great side, but it is about his personal ambition and desire.
"I know that Beckham would be a fantastic success in Spain. He is a great player and someone I really admire.
"Beckham is one of the best crossers of a ball I have ever seen. He is definitely good enough to go to any of the very best clubs."
