A body has been recovered at a pond in Atlanta, Georgia where the son of former MEP Kathy Sinnott went missing earlier this week.
Local police declined to confirm last night if the body was that of Kevin Sinnott (22), who went missing while swimming with friends at God Creek Golf Club on Monday night.
Ms Sinnott - a mother of nine - flew to Atlanta, Georgia, yesterday morning.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irishman missing in Atlanta, but a spokeswoman said they could give no further details last night.
It is understood that Kevin, who is one of six boys and three girls, was studying at a university in the US.
Ms Sinnott, who represented the South constituency, is chairwoman of the Hope Project, an Irish charity organisation she founded in 1996, which supports people with disabilities and their families.
