A solution has been found to difficulties over an intersection of the proposed Luas rail system with the M50 and the Naas dual carriageway in west Dublin.
The matter was settled on the basis of a suggestion by the Dublin Transportation Office, which was accepted by all interested parties including the Luas project team, the National Roads Authority, and South Dublin County Council.
The plan involves the Luas service crossing the southern edge of the M50/Naas Road interchange as would a car, and obeying traffic lights.
Slip roads are to be provided off the interchange, to ease congestion.
It was also agreed that access for buses and cars to the Luas station, as well as park and ride facilities nearby, would not he compromised.
DTO chief executive, Mr John Henry, said reports that the issue could only be resolved by going to Government, or by incurring extra costs, had proved groundless.
"All of the agencies involved worked together to find the optimum solution to this engineering problem," he said.
