A SOLICITOR found guilty of professional misconduct has been struck off the roll of solicitors by the High Court while another solicitor facing possible suspension and a freezing order over his accounts will have his case heard tomorrow.

Declan McCourt, of McCourt and Co Solicitors, Apollo’s Court, Defender’s Row, Dundalk, was struck off after he was found guilty by the Law Society’s disciplinary body, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, of professional misconduct relating to a number of matters.

These included failures in relation to an undertaking for a loan on a property in Dundalk, completion of work on another property matter in Carrick-on-Shannon and failing to furnish an accountant’s report on time in 2005.

After being told yesterday that an affidavit concerning Mr McCourt’s medical condition and a threat to kill him had still not been provided, Mr Justice Johnson refused to further adjourn the matter and struck Mr McCourt off.

In a second case, Mr Justice Johnson said he would hear tomorrow an application to suspend Joseph Traynor, practising as Traynor Company solicitors, Clanbrassil Street, Dundalk, Co Louth, and to freeze his accounts.

The court heard an investigating accountant sent in by the Law Society had found a number of irregularities.
