England defender Sol Campbell has opened talks with Arsenal over a possible summer move, said media reports today.
Campbell, who is out of contract at Tottenham and therefore available on a free transfer, has several clubs scrambling for his signature.
Italian giants Inter Milan are reportedly in the hunt to sign the 26-year-old England international as well as UEFA Cup winners Liverpool and Spanish side Barcelona.
The Evening Standardsaid Arsenal will offer Campbell a five-year deal and that his salary will not exceed £50,000 sterling a week.
It is believed Arsenal will not break their existing pay structure for Campbell who was reported to have asked for a package that came close to £135,000 a week to stay at Tottenham, although the player later denied that had been the case.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger will expect an answer from Campbell within a fortnight because he wants to have his squad for next season assembled in the next four weeks.
