Mr Brian Stevens, the British police liaison officer to the family of Soham murder victim Jessica Chapman, was arrested today in connection with allegations of perverting the course of justice.
Mr Stevens (42) who was cleared last month of child sex and computer pornography charges, was detained earlier today.
The officer, who works for Cambridgeshire police, was arrested by officers from the West Midlands, who were called in to investigate the original child pornography allegations.
In a prepared statement, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: "This morning we have arrested a man and a woman from the Cambridge area for offences of perverting the course of justice.
"Those two people will be interviewed during the day and there may be further information later."
It is understood the allegations of perverting the course of justice relate to an alibi produced during the original court proceedings against Mr Stevens, which were dropped when the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
West Midlands Police did not name Mr Stevens in today's statement, but sources close to the case confirmed it was him.
