Census 2016 to begin recruiting enumerators

Recruitment of enumerators for the 2016 census is to begin on Tuesday morning at 9am.

Census 2016 takes place on Sunday, April 24th next.

A total of 4,660 enumerators will be required to deliver and collect more than 2.3 million forms over a 10-week period for the census.

Applications to become an enumerator in the 2016 census will be received on the official census website from Tuesday until Friday next, January 8th.

Enumerators can earn approximately €2,400 for working the 10-week period.

This payment includes a fixed fee for the delivery and collection of census forms in enumerators’ local areas, along with fixed allowances for training, working Sundays and travel.

All enumerators are required to be signed-up officers of statistics, as this forbids them from divulging any information obtained as part of their official duties.

High demand

Deirdre Cullen, head statistician at the Central Statistics Office (CSO), said that "demand for these posts is always incredibly high".

She said that she “strongly advised” those interested in becoming an enumerator to apply early.
