Kilmarnock, Ayrshire - A policeman was bitten by a snake hidden in the trousers of a man he arrested for indecent exposure, a court heard yesterday. Officers released Mr Thomas Stevenson and allowed him to keep the four-foot boa constrictor, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court was told.

However, a member of the public was bitten by the same snake days later after confronting Stevenson as he attempted a break-in.

Stevenson, aged 21, pleaded guilty to recklessly concealing reptiles, resisting arrest, attempted theft and shameless indecency. The court heard that a couple saw him exposing himself in Ardchoile Park, Stevenston, Ayrshire, on June 30th.

Stevenson, of Lundholm Road, Stevenston, was remanded in custody and advised to find a solicitor.
