One of the largest Irish industrial groups Smurfit Kappa has this afternoon confirmed that it is considering a flotation for later this year.

In a brief statement issued today the company said that it will seek approval from its lenders to alter some credit terms to permit an IPO later

Smurfit Kappa was formed after the merger of Jefferson Smurfit with Dutch firm Kappa Packaging two years ago. The group employs 42,000 staff in 33 countries.

Smurfit Kappa is owned by its management and private equity groups.
