Smuggled cigarettes seized at Rosslare

Contraband cigarettes with a value of almost €850,000 have been seized by Customs officers at Rosslare port.

Contraband cigarettes with a value of almost €850,000 have been seized by Customs officers at Rosslare port.

The three million cigarettes were hidden in a 40-foot lorry container, which had arrived at Rosslare from Cherbourg last night.

The cigarettes were hidden in a consignment of tyres that had originated in Portugal, bound for Northern Ireland. The lorry driver was released following questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
