Customs Mobile Task Force officers have seized 47,000 cigarettes from a cargo vessel in Dundalk, the Revenue Commissioners announced yesterday. The skipper of the vessel, which arrived from Rotterdam, was questioned and later released.

The ship was released "on payment of a considerable fine". The cigarettes were Benson and Hedges and have an estimated street value of £7,000. Customs believes they were destined for the Irish market.
