'Slumdog' wins yet another award

THERE’S JUST no stopping Slumdog Millionaire

THERE'S JUST no stopping Slumdog Millionaire. The uplifting film about an impoverished Indian orphan who stars on a TV game show won the Screen Actors Guild (Sag) film award on Sunday night for "outstanding performance by a cast", continuing its incredible run this awards season.

The film, set in Mumbai, swept the Golden Globes two weeks ago and was nominated last week for 10 Academy awards. On Saturday night, it won the Producers’ Guild of America award.

Anil Kapoor, who plays the TV game show host in the film, accepted on behalf of the cast and exclaimed that it was enough just to be nominated. “But to win this is unbelievable,” he said.

The cast members of Slumdogweren't the only actors shocked by a win at the 15th annual Screen Actors Guild awards. Meryl Streep ran to the podium, arms raised in the air, and kissed presenter Ralph Fiennes on the lips after she won for her role as a stern nun in Doubt.

The late Heath Ledger was honoured for his turn as the Joker in The Dark Knight. James Earl Jones was honoured with Sag's life achievement award. – ( LA Times-Washington Postservice)
