Sixteen new cases of BSE reported this week

There were 16 reported new cases of BSE this week among both suckler and dairy herds, bringing the total to 104 for the year.

There were 16 reported new cases of BSE this week among both suckler and dairy herds, bringing the total to 104 for the year.

Single incidents were recorded in Westmeath, Meath, Kilkenny, Sligo, Monaghan, Laois and Louth while Kerry and Cork each recorded two incidents. There were five new cases reported in Co Cavan.

Of the 16, 11 were detected by active surveillance (Department of Agriculture testing) while the remainder were reported by farmers.
