Almost six million cigarettes have been seized by Customs at Rosslare Harbour, Co Wexford.
The cigarettes were concealed in a container of furniture and household goods. A lorry was also seized in the operation.
The cigarettes were valued at €1.7 million and would have cost the Reveunue Commissioners €1.3 million, if sold on the black market.
The lorry arrived from Cherbourg in France on October 10th. The lorry driver - a 47-year-old UK man - was questioned and later released.
