GARDAÍ HAVE arrested six people in connection with the murder of a man who died of head injuries a week after he was beaten in an early morning attack at the end of June.

Michael Connors (21) was attacked on the street at Belvedere Grove in Wexford town close to his family home in the early hours of June 30th last.

There was a large number of people in the area at the time when a fight broke out between a number of men. Mr Connors, a member of the Travelling community, sustained head injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital. However, his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital, north Dublin. He never regained consciousness and died at the Dublin hospital on July 8th.

Gardaí have since spoken to a number of people they believe were at the scene when Mr Connors, with an address at Cluain Dara, Clonard, Co Wexford, was fatally injured. Closed circuit television footage close to the crime scene has also been reviewed as part of the investigation.

Gardaí conducting the murder inquiry yesterday morning arrested six people in connection with the death of the young married man.

The arrested group includes three men and three women. They range in ages from 17 to 57 years.

The suspects were arrested at addresses in Wicklow and Wexford. They are being questioned under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to 24 hours without charge.
