Two sisters who claimed to have shared a bottle of fresh orange juice while shopping in a Quinnsworth store have been awarded damages for defamation against the company.
Ms Mandy Byrne (26), of York Terrace, Dun Laoghaire, told the Circuit Civil Court she presented the empty bottle to the cashier on the way out and paid for it with her shopping at the checkout.
She told her counsel, Mr Niall Beirne, that when a security man said she had not paid for it, she produced her receipt and he replied that they had drunk a bottle each.
Acting Circuit Court President, Judge Gerard Buchanan, held that passers by had seen the security man hold up an empty bottle and had heard him say to the girls. "Come back here, you did not pay for this."
He awarded Ms Byrne £1,000 and her sister, Susan (18), of Cooleevin, Ballybrack, £500 damages and costs.
