Sinn Fein has said it is unaware of any meetings between party members and Protestant churchmen and community leaders over decomissioning. Sunday Life yesterday reported that secret talks were taking place between Sinn Fein and the IRA and influential members of the Protestant community, to prevent the peace process foundering on the arms issue.

Mr Ken Maginnis, an Ulster Unionist MP, said he was aware of Sinn Fein attempts to gauge unionist opinion on the issue.
