Train services on the Dublin-to-Sligo line were disrupted today due to a signal fault.

Iarnród Éireann announced services were suspended on the Maynooth line, but a company spokeswoman said the service was expected to resume running shortly and not affect commuter services.

The signal problems earlier affected services between Dublin and Sligo, and bus transfers were used to ferry passengers.

Those trains affected were the 9.00 Sligo-Dublin, 11.05 Dublin-Sligo, 11.00 Sligo-Dublin, 13.05 Dublin-Sligo, and 15.00 Sligo-Dublin.

It was reported that 200 passengers on one train were earlier stuck in Clonsilla due to the fault.
