Gardaí in Dublin are investigating a shooting incident on the steps of Dublin City Council's Civic Offices at Wood Quay yesterday.
Two men on a motorbike drove up to the steps of the main entrance to the offices along the quays at 1.30 p.m. The pillion passenger then fired two shots at a number of men sitting on the steps.
None of the men was injured but it is believed a bullet did hit the building.
The motorcyclists drove off and the men who were shot at fled the scene.
The motorbike was later found nearby at Oliver Bond House in the city centre and taken away for examination by gardaí.
Garda sources say the men who were shot at have not come forward and the intended target of the attempted drive-by shooting remains unknown.
Gardaí at Kevin Street were conducting door-to-door inquiries last night at the Oliver Bond House flats where the motorbike was found.
Meanwhile, Dublin City Council confirmed they would be reviewing their security after the incident.
"We have security staff patrolling the grounds of the building but in light of this incident security will be reviewed," a spokeswoman for Dublin City Council told The Irish Times.
She confirmed Dublin City Council had "normal portering staff at that side of the building" when the shots were fired.
"No damage was done to the building but it caused quite a bit of disruption," she said.
"Staff returning from lunch had to be diverted to the Fishamble Street entrance after the Wood Quay entrance was closed off."
She admitted it was "a little bit unusual" to have an attempted shooting on the steps of the city council's main civic offices. "No one was injured and it was in no way related to Dublin City Council or their staff," she added.
The Garda also said it was unusual for an attempted shooting to occur in such an open public area in Dublin city centre.
