Shots were fired from two civilian vehicles at US troops near a northern Kuwait training area this morning, causing no injuries, the US embassy in Kuwait said.

The Kuwaiti defence ministry, the interior ministry, and the US military are conducting a joint investigation, it said.

US forces are doing manoeuvres in the northern Kuwaiti desert.

This morning's attack was the third shooting in less than a week involving US forces in Kuwait.

Last Tuesday a US marine was killed and another injured when attacked by two Kuwaitis while doing exercises on Failaka island, 20 kilometres east of Kuwait City. The two attackers were gunned down.
