Gardaí in Limerick were last night investigating shooting on the north side of the city.
A lone gunman fired at least two shots at the rear view window of a car parked outside a house in Cosgrave Park, Moyross, early yesterday.
The owner of the car was staying with a friend in the area when his car was shot at shortly before 3 a.m.
This is the third time in the last 12 months that property belonging to the car owner has been targeted by gunmen.
It is understood yesterday's shooting may also be linked to an armed robbery at a business premises last year.
According to Garda sources, this latest shooting is not linked to the ongoing feud in the city, which recently led to the murder of Mr John Ryan.
Part of the gun used in the attack was recovered at the scene and it is understood the gunman may have injured himself during the shooting as blood was also discovered in the area. No one else was injured in the blast.
Meanwhile, gardaí at Henry Street Garda station in Limerick yesterday released a man who was being questioned in connection with suspected membership of the "Real IRA".
A file is being prepared for the DPP.
