A family escaped injury last night after shots were fired at their house in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

A husband and wife, their 24-year-old daughter and three-year-old grand-daughter were all in the house at the time.

An RUC spokesman said two shots were fired through a downstairs window of the house at Salia Avenue at around 1 a.m. The attack was not believed to be sectarian, he said.

The woman who lives there said she believed the incident was connected to an incident last Saturday night when her husband tried to help a man who was being assaulted.
