Shell E&P Ireland (SEPIL) have issued registered warning letters to a number of Mayo landowners over staff access to the proposed route of a high volume-pressure gas pipeline.
Plans for the pipeline, intended to bring gas ashore from the Corrib Gas Field, have generated opposition within the local community and among environmental campigners.
Shell also plans two related developments in the area. One at a site in the townland of Bellagelly South, Bellanaboy Bridge, would be a gas terminal for the reception and separation of gas from the Corrib Gas Field.
The other development in the townlands of Srahmore and Attavally, Bangor Erris would be a peat deposition site.
A small number of landowners have failed to reach agreement with SEPIL over access and compensation arrangements. The company is threatening to seek a court injunction to access lands if the objectors insist on denying access to its personnel.
The registered warning letters require that all of the objectors provide written assurances, within seven days, that they will not interfere with preparatory works for the pipeline.
Shell staff and contractors withdrew from fencing duties last week and have not returned since.
