Shell Ireland is talking with a number of prospective buyers for its retail and commercial businesses in Ireland.

Shell operates around 50 petrol stations in the Republic and supplies a network of 160 service stations north and south.

The company would not comment on the sales price but said it hoped to make a decision soon.

It said that the company’s involvement in the Corrib gas exploration project, off the Co Mayo coast, will not be affected in any sale. The company’s aviation, bitumen and chemicals businesses will also not be affected.
