None of the three Irish teams attempting to make progress from the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup succeeded in their task tonight.

Shelbourne put up a brave fight in their home leg against Olimpija at Tolka Park but eventually lost 3-2 on the night and went out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate.

The other eircom League side Derry City failed to get on the score-sheet as they went down 3-0 at the Brandywell to lose 5-1 on aggregate.

Irish League side Portadown lost 2-0 at home to Malmo to lose 6-0 overall, rounding off a poor night in Europe for the three Irish sides.
