London - About 500 sharks have gathered off the Cornish coast - creating an "astounding" spectacle, wildlife specialists said yesterday. The basking sharks - some up to 30 feet long - are within sight of The Lizard.
Mr David Wilson of the Scottish Wildlife Trust said they may have gathered to feed, breed or as part of courtship. The largest group he had heard of previously was of 70 or 80.
