A TOTAL of 12 cases of sexual harassment - the highest since 1992 when there were 10 - were referred to the Labour Court last year, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment revealed. Compensation of £2,000 was awarded in one case, seven cases were settled or withdrawn, and four cases were awaiting a hearing, Mr Bruton said.
Replying to Ms Frances Fitzgerald (FG, Dublin South East) the Minister said that in 1995, compensation of £3,200 was awarded in one of the six cases referred to the court. In 1994, the seven cases were settled or withdrawn.
In 1993, compensation of £4,000 and £5,000 was awarded in two of the five cases referred to the court and an appeal for implementation of an equality officer's recommendation, which included an award of £6,000 compensation to the claimant, was, upheld.
