London - Mr Sidney Cooke appeared in court last night charged with serious sexual offences dating back to the 1970s. The 71-year-old went before a stipendiary magistrate in Newbury, Berkshire, amid tight security.
Mr Cooke, wearing a grey jacket, stood with his hands clasped behind his back as 14 charges including rape, buggery and indecent assault were put to him. The pensioner was arrested by Thames Valley police detectives on Tuesday at Yeovil, Somerset.
