Gardaí in Co Mayo are investigating what they describe as a serious sexual assault on a 21-year-old woman, who had earlier been in a Castlebar nightclub.
The woman was picked up by a car outside the Mantra nightclub in the Wellcome Inn on Newantrim Street, at about 2am yesterday. This car was later seen driving out the Snugboro road near the town.
The woman was seriously assaulted by the driver of the car and left on the side of the road.
She was later picked up by a young couple who drove her to her home.
