A car bomb that exploded in Tel Aviv this morning seriously injured one person and lightly wounded several others.

Police said the motive was criminal and that it was not a terrorist attack. Israeli rescue workers said one person was critically wounded and eight people had been lightly hurt.

Israeli underworld criminals have tried to kill each other in the past. On June 30th, a car bomb wounded an alleged gangland figure in Tel Aviv.

Israeli-Palestinian violence has dropped sharply since the main Palestinian militant groups declared a ceasefire on June 29th.

The last attack in Israel was on July 7th, when a bomber blew himself up inside a house in the centre of the country, killing an elderly woman.
