Seven teenagers were rescued by the Howth Coast Guard cliff rescue team yesterday evening after they became stranded at the end of a cliff at the Baily lighthouse near Howth Head in north Dublin.

Five men and two women were stranded by the incoming tide and phoned the Coast Guard for assistance at about 7pm as they feared for their safety in the fading light.

A 20-strong rescue team used ropes to help them up the 50 metre cliffs in an operation which was completed after 10pm.

None of the party required any further medical treatment.
