Seven UN/African Union peacekeepers were killed and 22 wounded, seven seriously, in an attack by unidentified militia in Sudan's Darfur region yesterday, the United Nations said today.

UN spokeswoman Michele Montas said the attack on a joint military and police patrol of the UNAMID peacekeeping force in North Darfur lasted two hours and the assailants used heavy weapons.
